Germany is a country in Central Europe, stretching from the Alps to the North Sea. Germany has as many as nine neighboring countries, clockwise starting in the North: Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands. 82 million inhabitants live in Germany, and it is thus the country with the largest population within the European Union. Germany is a very diverse country, with in the north and middle vast flat landscapes, and in the southern part of the country hills of the Black Forest and the northern range of the Alps. Until twenty years ago, Germany was divided into a Western and Eastern. East Germany is still economically less developed than the west of the country.
In Germany, there are very many sightseeing places. A visit to one of the big cities already gives you a very cultural day. Cities like Berlin, Cologne, Munich and Hamburg are highly recommended! In the Moselle region you can wander in between the vine slopes, in an almost Mediterranean atmosphere. Germany shows its true beauty, however, in the most numerous palaces, churches and castles that are in the country. The Cologne Cathedral is one such example.
Germany has much to offer in terms of natural beauty. Sauerland and the Black Forest are beautiful hilly areas and the Wadden Sea in northern Germany even has a spot on the World Heritage List. In the south of the country you go for your winter needs. Places like Garmisch-Partenkirchen immediately bring a sense of snow, mountains and winter.
